This initiative involved the Main Urban Authority of the project – Aveiro Municipality – the Police and Fire Brigades, the Hospital of Aveiro, Altice Labs and Ericsson, with the propose to demonstrate the improvement of the emergency unites response to these situations with 5G communications, by using live images of the scene, assistance of a drone and vital information of the causalities. This is possible thanks to low latency, superior bandwidth and new functionalities of 5G network.
Aveiro STEAM City continues its work to stimulate the digital transformation of the region and to create and retain talent and innovative companies in the local economy. To pursuit this goal, the development of a 5G ecosystem within the city presents itself as a vital achievement for project’s outcomes, and the activity developed on the 11th of September places Aveiro one step closer to become the first Portuguese City and one of the first cities in Southern Europe, with a 5G network tested.
During the Techdays event and in the context of Aveiro STEAM City the municipality will officially launch several initiatives in the area of innovation, digital skills and in the development of disruptive ideas in education, technology and arts. One of those initiatives will be the “Aveiro 5G Challenges” that aims to support startups, scaleups and R&D Institutes to develop new products and services in the 5G network testbed that is about to become a reality in Aveiro.
