Huge success in the first Call for Collaboration Proposals launched by Co-City

The City of Turin received almost 50 Collaboration proposals - as a result of the first Call launched in the framework of the Co-City project.

The Collaboration proposals are targeting three categories: periphery and urban cultures, underused service platforms and taking care of public spaces. They are freely consultable on the project website).

This result demonstrates the high attention towards the project by Turin’s residents and NGOs, and was achieved thanks to the dynamic activity of ensuring citizens’ engagement and promotion made by the network of Neighbourhood Houses. Eight local contact points, one for each city district, were set up to give information and support community building in the definition of proposals.

Moreover, by 30 October anyone may submit comments, contributions, requests for membership to the proposal, by using the FirstLife online platform or writing an e-mail to benicomuni@comune.torino.it.  Every new contribution will be published and considered during the co-design phase.

Pacts of Collaboration aims at  representing an innovative tool against poverty in the most fragile areas of the city, through the collaboration between local authority and residents by transforming unused or underused buildings and spaces in new community hubs and social enterprises, able to revive the community spirit and to create new employment and growth opportunities for residents.

"This is an outstanding achievement, going beyond all expectations, which rewards the city's choice of giving wider opportunities for participation to all the associations active in Turin – states Marco Giusta, Deputy Mayor in charge of Suburbs and Urban Commons- This result testifies the willingness of Turin’s residents to be part of the city revival action as well as the richness of the social and cultural scene of Turin even outside the traditional cultural spaces”.

“The opportunities offered by the national and European funds, combined with the investments already planned by the City, private actors and other institutions, are decisive in the investment in the future of the suburbs" adds Giusta.
By November, the proposals will be assessed by a panel of city officials (as stated by the Regulation on collaboration between city inhabitants and the city administration for the care, shared management and regeneration of the urban commons). Those selected will access the next phase of co-design - in collaboration with the City of Turin - and will then be the subject for the signature of Pacts of Collaboration.
