Designing and building the noise barrier!
The biggest piloting product is the noise barrier. It will be situated behind pre-school and school in Pontus to absorb noise from the railway. This autumn the City of Lappeenranta implemented design and construction of the foundations for the noise barrier. On 21st of November delegation consisting of City of Lappeenranta’s UIR team and representative of Finnish Transport Infrastructure Agency visited the site. The concrete casting of foundation was carried out the day before. Foundation and related infrastructure works will be ready in the end of November. Construction of the noise barrier will be implemented next summer.
In the evening on 20th of November City of Lappeenranta organized event for local citizens in Pontus school about the noise barrier made from geopolymers. The day, 20.11. is devoted for children in Finland and in the evening association of parents organized disco for children in Pontus school. As the children were there, on top of the noise barrier we also arranged some activities for children. Lots of children, part of the parents and some local citizens visited our event. The people liked the design of the noise wall and circulative new material made mainly of local side streams. Also reporter from local newspaper visited the event. He thanked us of good press release, took photos and interviewed. Article will be published next week. Children loved science related playful actions including banana piano, fishing ice cubes, moving aluminum tin with balloon using electricity from the hair and clothes as power.
