CoR Forum on the EU Urban Agenda
The Dutch Presidency of the EU has made the EU Urban Agenda one of its key priority, and the event will be organized together with the Association of Netherlands Municipalities, the Association of the Provinces of the Netherlands, the City of Amsterdam and the Province of Noord-Holland.
The European Urban Agenda is a joint effort of European Commission, Member States and European Cities Networks to strengthen the urban dimension of European policies. It is about improving the implementation on the ground of EU policies related to urban issues and involving urban stakeholders in the design of these policies. Giving urban authorities a voice in the process should also improve the quality of life in urban areas, and EU governance.
The Forum taking place in Amsterdam on the 30th of May will bring together representatives of local and regional authorities, EU institutions, Member States and relevant stakeholders. They will discuss the concrete steps that are needed to implement the EU Urban Agenda and to improve the urban dimension in EU policy making.
The Forum will be held back to back with the informal meeting of Ministers responsible for urban matters. The aim of this ministerial Conference is to adopt the "Pact of Amsterdam" on the EU Urban Agenda, a political declaration and strong agreement made by all EU Member States. When adopted, this Pact will launch the first joint partnership between urban authorities, regions and Member States working on key themes important to cities with a strong EU dimension.
This Conference is expected to be a turning point in the implementation of the EU Urban Agenda on the ground, and UIA will hold a stand at the Westergasfabriek. So feel free to come and meet us at the exhibition area!
