Unique jewellery made of wood of invasive species
Basic analyses of wood of invasive alien plant species, done by the Applause project at the Department of Wood Science and Technology at the Biotechnical Faculty, showed that certain species offer us extremely varied, unique and colourful textures. Where else can these beauties be best exploited than in jewellery making? Therefore, we made wooden jewellery from wood processing residues and from branches of invasive wood species.
We used wood of:
- Tree of heaven (Ailanthus altissima)
- Honey locust (Gleditsia triacanthos)
- Black locust (Robinia pseudoacacia L.)
- Staghorn sumac (Rhus typhina L.)
- Cherry plum (Prunus cerasifera)
- Japanese barberry (Berberis thunbergii)
- Box elder (Acer negundo L.)
- Southern catalpa (Catalpa bignonioides).
From these species, beautiful wooden rings, earrings and unique jewellery boxes were created.
