Several municipalities are adopting the solution for snow clearance developed in Växjö during the Diaccess project.
Within the framework of the Diaccess project, the municipality of Växjö together with the company Klimator have developed a new control system to facilitate planning, performance and follow-up of snow removal and anti-slip activities. IoT-technology, combined with Klimators’ expertise on weather data combined with topography knowledge, result in a forecast for when and where interventions are needed.
The solution was tested in a first round last winter in Växjö, and more municipalities have already followed. This winter, the solution has been implemented in seven other municipalities in Sweden and around 20 are evaluating it for the coming season.
In Växjö, the development continues and for the current winter season the system has been further improved. This winter, the sensors in the roads have been supplemented with strategically placed cameras intended to measure snow depth on surfaces. Another novelty in Växjö is a collaboration with the automotive industry that is now becoming a reality in Växjö, where connected passenger cars report information in real time from the road network.
