Launch of three test houses for recycling
In specific terms, three test houses are being built in which different recycling methods are tested, using the materials harvested from the sustainable demolition of one of the flats in the area. These test houses are tested on their viability and copy ability. In the first quarter of 2019 a casco from the 10th floor will be lifted out of the high-rise flat and will be placed on a new foundation. Two houses from the original high-rise flat will form the basis for one of the test houses. The hoisting moment will be the official kick-off of the building of the three test houses.
Based on so-called ‘harvest lists’ the demolisher researched what’s in such a building and how can we re-use those materials. The experiment is primarily aimed at concrete but is much broader. Kitchens, wood or even electricity all items are examined for the possibility of re-use. Nevertheless, the most important part of this experiment is the re-use of concrete. Concrete in particular is polluting and scarce. The circularity of concrete is therefore a hot-item, also for the Super Circular Estate project. With the smart liberator, it is possible to obtain circular cement using a pioneering, innovative method of concrete processing. Now most re-used concrete is used underneath highways but this is down-sizing of this valuable material. Therefore, an important part of the Super Circular Estate project is circular re-use of concrete.
