Highlights from Szabad a Tér Initiatives
The "Ej mi a kő" Program:
The "Ej mi a kő" program allowed small children to learn about the world of Petőfi, understanding his era through the words and moods of his verses. Families sang and danced to the renditions of Petőfi's poems in the neighbourhood’s playgrounds.
Kelenvölgyi Polgárok Köre's Development:
The Kelenvölgyi Polgárok Köre installed a grand sun sail in their courtyard, enhancing the comfort of their outdoor events. This development aimed to further enrich the Gasztroklub (Gastro Club), where community members could share recipes and teach children the art of cooking.
A Lake for Baranyai Street Park:
In Baranyai Street Park, residents introduced an artificial lake. This communal effort not only added a beautiful feature to the park but also paved the way for various workshops and events to be organized around it.
Ménesi Cultural Street Ball on September 16:
Supported by the Szabad a Tér initiative, the Ménesi Cultural Street Ball promised a day filled with different activities, culminating in the main attraction—the Street Ball itself. This inclusive event encouraged community members to participate in a celebration without the need to leave their children behind.
Greening the Streets - Szabad a Tér's Commitment:
This project pledged to transform the parking lot in front of Kanizsai Street 16 into a green park, eliminating the need to store bicycles in parking spaces. This initiative not only promoted environmental consciousness but also showcased the neighborhood's commitment to green living.
Live Reading of Ottlik Géza's "Hajnali háztetők":
Another standout project involved a live reading of Ottlik Géza's "Hajnali háztetők" on a rooftop in Újbuda. Imagine sitting on a bean bag, enjoying the sunrise at the end of the summer, and listening to the story.
Community Action at Diószegi Street Playground:
The Diószegi Street Playground community wanted to enhance the play area by planting shrubs and perennial plants. This collaborative effort aimed to create a more enjoyable space for children to play and for parents to engage in conversations.
Szedersorfest - Connecting the Neighborhood:
Scheduled for late September, the first Szedersorfest in Szedersor Street promised a day filled with live music, dance, workshops, and knowledge sharing on sustainable transportation. This event, backed by Szabad a Tér, aimed to strengthen community bonds and showcase the vibrant spirit of the neighborhood.
Insert's Literary Initiative:
Insert, in addition to Szabad a Tér, hosted an Idea Competition. One winning group, CAP ARCHITECTS, planned a day-long reading of Ottlik Géza's "Iskola a határon" by the Feneketlen-tó. This literary event also included celebrity guests, aimed to bring people together through the power of storytelling.
Waste-Free Green Picnic and Garage Sale at Abádi Square:
In September, Abádi Square hosted an event under the Szabad a Tér banner. This gathering included a garage sale, therapeutic dog demonstrations, handicrafts, local producers, book exchanges, a ping-pong tournament, environmental awareness initiatives, and concerts.
