UIA workshop on the Integration of Migrants and Refugees

Integration of Migrants and Refugees
The UIA initiative in cooperation with the City of Antwerp are pleased to invite you to the workshop entitled "The role of cities in the integration of migrants and refugees", taking place in the Flemish city on 12/13 June 2019, alongside the EUROCITIES Working group on Migration and Integration. Make sure to register before the 29th of May 2019.

The capitalisation workshop will see the participation of the four UIA cities working on the migrants and refugees topic, Vienna, Utrecht, Bologna and Antwerp that, accompanied by their UIA experts, will discuss and share the main challenges and achievements after the first two years of implementation.

The following four questions (further detailed in the description available for download on this page) will be guiding the discussion:

1. What is the optimal and sustainable intensity of personalized case management and support services that can increase chances of integration?
2. How important is the physical dimension of co-housing and combination with new type of reception and social centres in these interventions?
3. What role can the engagement of stakeholders and citizens play in leveraging public opinion and political support?
4. What kind of organisation of multi-level governance is required to address the challenge effectively?

On the 12th of June, a first introductory plenary will offer the opportunity to understand the wider strategic policy context for inclusion of migrants in the four cities, while the guiding questions will be further presented and discussed during the four breakout workshops that will follow. Participants will have the possibility to exchange with a wide range of stakeholders representing the four UIA projects at the event.

The conversation on the 4 key question will continue on the 13th of June with an interactive site visit to the CURANT project in Antwerp. Several local actors involved in the project (municipal team, NGOs, university, final beneficiaries, etc) will welcome participants at the BREM16 space and will share their experiences so far.

The agenda is available on this page. A practical guide on hotels recommendations, venues and means of transport in Antwerp is also available on this page.
